“This is a national security issue,” says Johnston.
“It should really be handled by the Department of Homeland Security.”
On Thursday at Liberty Hall in Carpentersville, IL noted election security expert Dr. Roger Johnston from the Vulnerability Assessment Team at Argonne National Laboratory will join Defend the Vote to discuss election security of voting equipment in Illinois.
You will recall Dr. Johnston worked with Defend the Vote to change Chicago elections in 2011. Argonne National Laboratories published the 2011 Audit report in the Journal of Physical Security. In this report, Defend the Vote found Chicago had a 91% fail rate on compliance with their own election security, and Dr. Johnston found the procedures failed 100% of the time to secure the ballot. This report resulted in significant changes in Chicago election practices.
Dr. Johnston and Defend the Vote are now working to making changes in Illinois election security before the November elections. Join us on Thursday at Liberty Hall.
Dr. Johnston is responsible for the explosive research establishing voting machines can be hacked with just $10.50 in parts and an 8th grade science education. The hack could change voting results without leaving a trace of manipulation as evidence.
“We believe these man-in-the-middle attacks are potentially possible on a wide variety of electronic voting machines,” said Roger Johnston, leader of the assessment team “We think we can do similar things on pretty much every electronic voting machine.” (Salon News).
Please join us on Thursday. This will be informative and a hands on work session.
Registration begins at 6:30pm.
Dr. Johnston will also speak with Defend the Vote in Chicago in early July. Details will be announced on Monday.
