The group Cause of Action (Advocates of Government Accountability) has deduced that the group ACORN -- disbanded in 2009 -- has reconstituted itself into 174 new groups that are now attempting to operate in much the same way that ACORN did, only this time attempting to fly a little further below the radar.
In 2008, and in previous elections, ACORN spearheaded aggressive voter registration efforts that put Mickey Mouse, Casper the Friendly Ghost, dead people, and other non-eligible entities on the voter rolls in several states, including Illinois. ACORN operatives were paid for the number of new voter registrations they could collect, resulting in fraud due to the financial incentive to make up names (in addition to the political incentive of registering non-entities so those votes could be cast for a candidate that ACORN favored).
It's tough to stay informed and to keep tabs on the incredibly well-funded and slippery entities out there that attempt to fraudulently register non-citizens and non-entities for voting in Illinois and the rest of the country.
Chime in with a comment if you have any good ways of keeping yourself up to date on this kind of information.
